Junie wants to be as cool as Kim Deal, but she moved to New York because she fell in love with Julian Casablancas on MTV, or wants to fuck him, or wants to fuck boys who look like him, the boys who hang around at bars and warehouses turned into rock clubs in Brooklyn. They wear the same underwear as she does, they shop at the same thrift stores, their roommates even cut their hair. They’re too skinny too from too many cigarettes and too little food, all skin and bones and stick and poke tattoos – it’s almost like fucking herself. One of the boys sells her pot at a discount. She gets her little clamshell case of birth control for free at Margaret Sanger….
